The Dig (released on 29th January) is a film by Netflix exploring the story of the excavation of the Great Ship Burial at Sutton Hoo in 1939. Starting in 1938, archaeolgists have continued working here and the surrounding areas until the modern age, with a number of new discoveries in the early 2000s. The 2021 Netflix movie “The Dig” is based on the real life events surrounding one of the greatest archaeological finds in the world, and one of the most notable pre-Viking Saxon era from the 6th to 7th centuries.
